Sweet Woodruff

Sweet Woodruff Sweet Woodruff Thomas Candlish

Sweet Woodruff (galium odoratum)

Sweet woodruff is part of the bedstraw family of plants along with cleavers like Sticky Jack. Bedstraws were used in the past to make mattresses hence the name. In Germany sweet woodruff is added to maywine to flavour it. If you take a piece and put it next to your skin so it warms up a bit, it gives off a very distinctive marzipan aroma.
