Art, Music & Movement Garden
Art & Music Garden welcomes families to the garden o Saturday afternoons for outdoor art, music, movement and exploration.
A partnership between Scotswood Garden and Newcastle City Council's community facilitators Sally Southern and Jo Templey, we offer visual art one week and music & movement the other.
Come along to explore the Garden and join with others to make nature inspired art using a wide range of materials and things we find around the Garden or explore sound, rhythm and movement. We like to get inspired by the wildlife living in our Garden with activities like bug hunting or pond dipping, and we like to explore the changing seasons.
This inclusive group creates a space where disabled and non-disabled children can play with their friends, neighbours and peers. The group is open to families who:
- live in Newcastle with children with additional needs, their siblings and non-disabled peers. No diagnosis is required.
- Local families with non-disabled children
- Existing members who are relocated outside Newcastle may continue to attend
- Adults in a caring/supporting role, but not adults only
It is always the responsibility of parents/carers to supervise and provide support and personal care for their children. During sessions there may be other members of the public in the garden. We have a limited budget to reimburse public transport costs for those who could not attend otherwise.
Spaces are limited and by advance booking only; we are usually oversubscribed and may sometimes need to alternate bookings to allow everyone to join in. We notify and take bookings for sessions via text, WhatsApp and email. To join our notifications and booking list please complete the following form:

This is a very relaxed session, and our activities are especially designed to meet the needs of young people with disabilities and their friends and families. Alternatively, if you're not in the mood to make things, you can simply enjoy exploring the Garden!
Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
