Shining Cranesbill (geranium lucidum)

This plant is part of the geranium family. It has a pink flower and the leaves can turn red, particularly in autumn. You can find it all over Scotswood Garden! The seed head is long and pointed like a crane's bill, which is where it gets its name from. Also it disperses its seeds by explosion - the seeds are on little stalks which gradually dry out, tighten and then curl up, flinging the seeds away from the plant.
