Red Clover (trifolium pratense)
This lovely meadow plant can be found between May and October. Its large pink globe-like flower heads are a favourite with long tongued bumblebees. It is renowned for producing an abundance of nectar and so it is an excellent plant to grow to support insects. The leaves are longer than traditional clover leaves but are still found in threes. If you look closely at the leaves they have a white mark on them which sometimes looks like an arrow.
Red clover extract has several medicinal uses including for the menopause, respiratory and skin problems, although some of these applications remain to be medically proven.
