Common Frog (rana temporaria)

Frogs are amphibians, just like newts. They need a habitat with water and surrounding vegetation to survive. Frogs are not exclusively nocturnal but do tend to be more active at nighttime.

Frogs tend to be a mixture of green or brown but are sometimes other colours too, such as reds and yellows. They have a black eye mask. Frogs have a smoother skin than toads.

In winter frogs semi hibernate in mud or under log piles. Like newts, they will come out on warmer days to feed.
