Hare's Foot Inkcap

Hare's Foot Inkcap (coprinus lagopus)

This is a real treat to see. This dainty fungus only lasts for a few hours before dissolving into black ink. It takes its name from its shape which is said to resemble the paw of a white rabbit! Do you agree?

You usually find this fungus on compost heaps, wood chips or on horse manure. Autumn until mid winter is the best time to see it.
